My artistic project in Nisyros is an ambitious endeavor to combine the island’s rich history and stunning landscapes with my contemporary artistic practice. Inspired by deep-rooted cultural critique and the use of spray and airbrush techniques, this project aims to create a dialogue between the past and the present, presenting Nisyros’ history through a modern lens.

My approach begins with extensive research into the history, traditional elements, and landscapes of Nisyros. With its rich cultural heritage and impressive geology, Nisyros provides an ideal setting for such an artistic venture. The research will include studying historical records, folklore, local legends and traditions, as well as mapping the island’s natural and architectural features.

Based on this research, I will create artworks depicting significant historical moments of Nisyros. The use of spray and airbrush techniques will allow me to incorporate landscapes and natural features dynamically and atmospherically. These tools offer a level of spontaneity and fluidity crucial for capturing the essence of energy and immediacy in the scenes.

The compositions will be characterized by bold color choices and intricate layers, creating works that exude vitality and movement. The artworks will combine historical scenes with contemporary elements, creating a dialogue between the past and the present.

Integrating local landscapes and architecture will be a central element of the project. The striking natural features of Nisyros, such as its volcanic terrain and geothermal fields, will be used to give the works a unique sense of place. Additionally, the island’s traditional architecture will be incorporated into the artworks to emphasize the connection between the natural and the human-made environment.

The deliberate deconstruction of traditional artistic conventions will be a central aspect of the project. The works will incorporate contemporary techniques and aesthetic approaches, introducing subtle irony and critique into the academic discourse.
